Ex-Emo Ocho Ochoista Chronicles: Noynoy's Winnability and the Purpose of Voting

Manny:

I just exchanged pleasantries with former Speaker Joe de Venecia this evening, sa Thursday (May 6) he would be leading Lakas Originals (inlcuding El Tabako) by jumping ship from the sinking Titanic Lakas-Kampi NUCD to publicly endorse Noynoy Aquino for president.

Thus, kahit madaling araw na ito still beating the keyboard to hammer this new development for a national daily.

On Debates

Alpha:

I don’t listen to what they talk – all of them can afford the best speech writers available for a fraction of the cost of a tv ad…

i look more intimately to how they conduct their campaign — that’s where I can see the kind of leadership they got when they rise to power…90% of my closest friends and colleagues are with noynoy and a handful are with villar, erap, gordon and others including the alternatives (nicky p., eddie v. et al). …
And none with Gibo whose conduct of the campaign I observe, is unexpectedly more non-traditional and appreciative compared to others. And how he handles the extra-challenge of being associated with the unpopular GMA is quite impressive. I believe leaders should be ready to make politically unpopular decisions to bring us out from the cellar. This is necessary especially with the fact that we are a country of nation wreckers than builders… We are generally only good in hate campaigns and not on making a vision happen.

Just thinking from the armchair 😉

“Maybe essentially yes, but not exactly the same. At least a group of well meaning and sincere individuals coming from civil society organizations and in their own volition are inside noynoy’s camp trying to box-out the dominant trapo clique in shaping the conduct of his campaign... The highlighting of trivialities like the “leukemia” issue and other forms of negative campaigning over issues like genuine Agrarian Reform, right to self determination of IP and Bangsa Moro, clear anti-crony agenda,  etc, shows from surface that they are not doing well enough.

If the Law of Attraction is correct: what will happen after the election, to our country, is the negative things that these politicians are shouting out loud right now and not the positive things that are being said in whisper.

Bravo replied:

sounds like a repeat of the power struggle within the Cory administration that lead to brownouts.  let a real leader handle it – Gordon. Attract winners – not losers like Noynoy.

“I have yet to ascertain why for instance, should I vote for Dick Gordon or Nicky Perlas or even Brother Eddie…All of them need a miracle even to place themselves in the front runner club… In election, heaven sent miracles do not happen. Miracles come from the earth — they should have started building their grassroot-based organizations and campaign machinery towards this end 6 years ago if they wanted to give a credible fight against the titans.   They have higher IQ than mine, so the fact leads me to believe that they have agenda more important to them than winning this race. 🙂

Gibo not joining the mud-slinging frenzy is quite surprising. Maybe for political expediency? His association with GMA will make him the most vulnerable if he chooses this front as his battle arena. He is using his intellectual independence and prowess in developing his own brand. Seems successful despite the attacks against him via GMA.

No wonder he, a La Salle alumni won the stray voting inNoynoy’s alma mater – Ateneo. However, winning the nod of effective opinion leaders (who can influence votes) is another thing. If the passion of a Gwen Garcia will radiate to other governors and mayors that swore allegiance to him,  and seize their command votes, I guess the end game could be a close contest with him as one of the contenders.

Bravo replied:

Sounds like “winnability” to me. The same opportunist voting paradigm that led us to this hellhole in the first place.

On The Purpose of Voting

“voting without of a sight of winning is for what? i have this advice for one aspirant of a local position: if you want to run with all sincerity despite being not sure of winning, make a shock and awe presentation of your platform, with a stunning quality that your opponent will even implement it himself if he wins. do not mud-sling, as it can be better implemented by him with you as his adviser.  in that case you can never lose. politics should bring out the divine and not the evil within you.  story ending: he withdrawn his candidacy. hehe!”

Bravo replied:

last time I checked – one votes to select the best candidate – in doing so, everybody wins. having a shallow personality-centric  interpretation of “win” tends to put the small p over the big P – personality over plataporma, thereby winning as the losingest country in ASEAN – decades and counting 😉

middle class living is not super-rich. In a 2010 world, Pinoys who want
to do a Cuba can migrate to Cuba and live in the 1950s - but obviously,
Pinoy feet are not lining up in the Cuban embassy
