Advance Notice: The All Too Familiar Power Struggles Begin

There is a feeling of Deja vu. A feeling that we have been here before. And we are just repeating what we did before. We didn’t learn our lesson, we voted for the oligarchy. Here’s the lesson folks, when it comes to politics “in good faith” may just as well be “blind faith” – you have to do your due diligence, or your decision will come back to haunt you. There is no escaping it, there is no running away from it – if the lesson is not learned, the student repeats the class until he/she figures it out.

Although Noynoy Aquino has not yet been proclaimed President-elect, the jockeying for positions has already begun. What’s worse – what started out as Noy-Mar is turning out to be Noy-Bi because Noynoy’s Uncle Peping does not like Mar Roxas views on liberalizing the economy – nor is Peping comfortable with the Hyatt 10. After all, if the Hyatt 10 can turn their backs against Arroyo for corruption, what if they caught on to the machinations of the oligarchy and its Manchurian candidate?

We have sounded off the alarm before – if the Hyatt 10 and other emo progressives have the delusion that they can turn Noynoy against his fellow oligarchs, they are in for a rude awakening. And this time around, AP is saying “I TOLD YOU SO” after this material from the Inquirer:

Inside story: Hyatt 10 vs Kamag-anak Inc.

MANILA, Philippines—The fight between the “Noy-Mar” and “Noy-Bi” advocates has been traced to the rivalry between the Hyatt 10 and groups identified with the so-called Kamag-anak Inc. of ex-Tarlac Rep. Jose Cojuangco, the Philippine Daily Inquirer has learned from sources in the camp of presidential front-runner Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

The “Noy-Bi” tandem of Aquino for president and Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay for vice president was purportedly fielded to derail the “Noy-Mar” tandem of Aquino and Sen. Manuel “Mar” Roxas II, which was seen as “not good” for Cojuangco and his allies, the sources said.

Pastor “Boy” Saycon, who is Cojuangco’s colleague in the Council for Philippine Affairs (Copa), which was pushing for the “Noy-Bi” tandem, denied Cojuangco’s involvement. “Peping is out of this,” Saycon said.

The so-called Kamag-anak Inc. refers to the relatives of Aquino who were allegedly involved in corrupt activities that tainted the administration of his mother, Cory Aquino, from 1986 to 1992.

Cojuangco’s group, according to a source, has zeroed in on former Social Welfare Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman, antipoverty commission head Imelda Nicolas, and Aquino’s campaign manager, former Education Secretary Florencio “Butch” Abad, who all quit the Arroyo administration at the height of the “Hello Garci” scandal in 2005. Along with seven other Cabinet members, the group also called on Ms Arroyo to step down at a presscon at Hyatt Hotel, thus their name “Hyatt 10.”

Cojuangco’s group, according to sources, did not want any Hyatt 10 member back in the Cabinet under the new Aquino administration because they were once closely associated with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Cracks in the campaign

In an interview, Soliman admitted there were cracks in the campaign.

“I know that there are people in the campaign who are not comfortable with us. But that’s the beauty of the campaign. There is diversity, there is broadness, and there lies the challenge. What united us is the common desire for change and in seeing “Noy-Mar” as the real partners of the people in effecting that desired change,” Soliman said.

She said the group was “very focused to be united… until we found out that we were not so united when the ads of Noy-Bi started coming out.”

She said Aquino was “made aware of the concerns of the Noy-Mar people.”

According to the sources, the “Noy-Bi” tandem was promoted by groups who campaigned alongside with the “Noy-Mar” volunteers.

‘Sleeping with enemy’

“We were sleeping with the enemy, but God knows and sees everything,” an elderly volunteer said.

“I was deceived. I volunteered to campaign for Noy-Mar. Then sometime in April, my organization was already for Noy-Bi, and I was still campaigning with them in the sorties,” another volunteer complained.

The groups identified with the Noy-Bi campaign include Copa, Philippine Patriotic Movement (PPM), Noynoy Aquino for President Movement (NAPM), Tuloy Pnoy and Yellow Force.

Cojuangco founded Copa with Saycon, Boy Montelibano, William Esposo, Louis Sison, Maria Montelibano and Triccie Sison.

The NAPM was founded by Ed Roces days after the death of President Corazon Aquino in August 2009 to gather a million signatures that would convince Noynoy Aquino to run for president. The NAPM officers include Salvador Rivera, Marcedes Prieto and Briccio Santos.

Roces was duplicating the campaign launched by his father, Don Chino Roces, to convince the widow of opposition Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. to run for president against the dictator Ferdinand Marcos in the 1986 snap election.

Yellow Force vs Yellow Army

The Yellow Force, which was launched during the election period, was apparently organized to rival the Noy-Mar volunteer group organized by Soliman, the Yellow Army. The daughter of Cojuangco, Mikee C. Jaworski, has been identified as a prime mover in the Yellow Force and Tuloy Pnoy.

The NAPM holds its office in Makati on the fourth floor of Parc House along EDSA (Epifanio delos Santos Avenue), just two floors above the office of the Yellow Ribbon Movement, a staunch Noy-Mar volunteer campaign group composed mostly of wives of retired military and police officers, and former members of the Aquino Cabinet. The Yellow Ribbon Movement was organized by Margie Juico, who also served in the Aquino Cabinet.

Ironically, Noynoy Aquino and his campaign manager, Butch Abad of Hyatt 10, have their offices on the third floor of the same building.

And you all didn’t believe Kamaganak, Inc… Guess what, YELLOW ZOMBIES, you have been pwned by the oligarchy!!! IDIOTS!!!

Noynoy Aquino, Peping Cojuangco, and the amigos y amigas del familia is just warming up.

These six years are gonna be your SIX YEARS OF SHAME!!!

  9. Gibo has/had no dedication… He was forced to run.

And now that he lost, he said he quits. So much for that. He is also part of the Kamaganak Inc. Don’t u think it would have gone down the same path?

  10. Hahaha! The Trolololo guy xD

Lets post it on here since it seems so appropriate:

  11. I would’ve liked to have seen him have a chance, but you may be right. In fact, if you think about it, it might have been a lot worse — he’s a hell of a lot smarter than his cousin.

  12. “in good faith” may just as well be “blind faith”

notice how this has been hardwired in us by the Catholic Church for what, several hundred years already?

i don’t think this can be undone by just one election.

“Tanggapin mo na na talo ka GO NOYNOY wag mo pansinin mga naninira sayo at ayaw sayo”……I wonder, virus ba tong Yellow fever some kind of a disease na ang tinatarget is utak?

  15. My ibang salita dyan dear; mass hysteria.

  16. HUNGKAG · ·

This is the first big test to Noynoy’s insider political skills.
In 1986 power is distributed into the following blocs:

Doy Laurel and Unido Trapo Groups- Secretary of DFA

    JPE/FVR – Dept of Defense

JVOngpin and Raul Concepcion , Business and Civil Society- Dept of Finance and Dept of Trade

    Solita Monsod – Economics Department

    Ninoy Friends:

    Rmitra= Dept of Agriculture

Joker Arroyo and Human righs lawyer- Executive Secretary and Office of Energy Affairs

    Jovy Salonga – PCGG

    Ernesto Maceda -DENR

    A Pimentel – DILG

Many of these personalities later run for the first election in 1989 after the approval of the constitution.

RMitra became speaker and there were coups. JPE parted ways with Cory. JVO committed suicide.
Now for Noynoy. How will he manage his coalition. To maintain the loyalty and respect of those who voted for him, he should make a principled stand on Hacienda Luisita in his first 100 days before anything else. Then he should spell his annual goal defining his short term and long term objectives.

    Other ciritical issues;

Will his party compromise with NP/NPC to capture the speakership. How will he close Manny Villar issues?
Will he reward with juicy positions those who supportrd his candidacy even if not popularly accepted?

Yes, sadly, stupidity is a disease that still has no cure in the world. I pity those people, they are suffering more and more yet they don’t even know it.

  18. M_A_R_I_A · ·

@ben & benk: but Gibo has already parted ways with peping’s political party, right? do you guys wonder why? maybe Gibo doesnt like peping’s party agendas. I still believe Gibo is far different from his kamaganaks. why turn his (Gibo) back to someone (peping c.) who has the ability (political machinery) to make him win in the polls if his only concern is the same as the trapo’s and kamaganak’s concerns? get it? gibo was not forced to run. in fact, he was honored that he’s the one chosen by lakas to run. dedication? he was pouring with it. being trashed by his so-called party brothers just because he was not amongst the front runners in the surveys, being deprived with campaign funds, being betrayed by the people he thought was for him… etc, he kept on the course of the election and didnt give up. that’s his dedication… and dedicated it to us who believes in him. lastly, of course he’ll quit. the game is over.what do you expect? he already gave the nation an alternative but the majority has spoken. sadly, it was not him.

  19. @Ben, Gibo is not part of Kamaganak Inc. K-Inc is Peping’s side of the Cojuangcos. Gibo is from Danding’s side. Peping and Danding split during the Marcos years. Remember, Peping was backing Cory while Danding was with Marcos. Peping and Danding only get along when they have a common goal. When Gibo left Danding because he didn’t want to play ball anymore, that common goal was to get Noynoy elected. There’s a lot riding on it for Peping and Danding. For Peping, it’s assumed to be Hacienda Luisita and government positions. For Danding, San Miguel and the coco levy case.

Gibo’s run was finalized at the last minute, but I wouldn’t say he had no dedication. You can’t blame the guy for saying he wants to go back to private life after the elections. He’s said this from the start, since he filed his candidacy. He’s not “quitting” because he lost. He’s retiring from politics because that’s what he said he would do from the start if he didn’t win. He said he would only return to politics if there was a change in the political system.

So no, Gibo for sure would not have gone down the same path as Noynoy. Among other reasons, Gibo lost the election because he refused to make all the cheap compromises Noynoy made. Unfortunately in the Philippines, those cheap compromises are what get you elected.

  20. Dr. José Rizal II · ·

Gibo is generally outside of what we all call the Kamag-anak Inc, because the Kamag-anak Inc. comes from the Jose Cojuangco wing of the Cojuangco clan, while Gibo comes from the Eduardo Cojuangco wing. Those two wings got estranged especially when the Hacienda Luisita deal with the government during President Magsaysay’s term benefitted only the Jose Cojuangco wing, but left the Eduardo Cojuangco wing out.

That resentment was what Marcos exploited when he befriended Eduardo Jr. (“Danding”) and turned him into Marcos’ mega-crony.

  21. M_A_R_I_A · ·

    so its danding’s? not peping’s (party)… my apologies… 🙂
